Abstract
Sleep and circadian rhythm disruptions are commonly noted in individuals with mental disorders. While traditionally they are seen as symptoms secondary to anxiety and depressive symptoms, increasing research evidences point to a bi-directional relationship between sleep and circadian rhythm disruptions with symptom severity in mental disorders including mood, anxiety and psychotic disorders. In this Think-tank seminar, I am going to present the recent experimental and longitudinal evidences showing sleep’s impact on the cognitive-affective functions, with a focus on the implications on clinical population.
