Organisational Health in the Primary School: A Framework for New Headteachers
How do effective headteachers create cohesion among staff, parents, governors and outside organisations? What is school organisational health, why does it matter, and what does it look like? This presentation will focus on Richard's research project in collaboration with Devon Schools Leadership Service and the Tarka Learning Partnership. It will focus on outlining the academic field as it stands, the research design and methodology, early findings, and the complexity of the primary school as an organisation.
About the Speaker
Richard D'Souza is an ESRC-funded PhD student at Exeter. He has held various roles as an educational practitioner, with experience as a class teacher, staff governor, and HLTA, in a prolonged attempt to understand the primary school from multiple perspectives. This research looks at the impact of leadership on staff teams. In particular, he is interested in how effective
headteachers create clarity in times of change, and their declarative and procedural knowledge of school teams and school organisational health.
