“Magnetic resonance imaging for prostate cancer diagnosis in primary care”
Dr Sam Merriel, Clinical Senior Research Fellow
The recently updated NICE guidance Prostate Cancer: Diagnosis and Management recommends that all men with suspected prostate cancer should have an MRI prior to a biopsy. Sam is exploring the potential impact of MRI on prostate cancer diagnosis in primary care and will be presenting some of his early PhD findings at this seminar.
"The impact of reducing referral thresholds for urgent cancer investigation in England"
Dr Sarah Moore, Academic Clinical Fellow
NICE guidance recommends patients presenting in primary care are referred for urgent investigation if their estimated risk of cancer is 3% or more. This risk threshold could be lowered to help expedite cancer diagnosis but would have unknown implications on resource requirements. Sarah is investigating the impact of a reduction in risk threshold on the numbers of patients eligible for referral and will present her findings at this seminar.
