Faculty Development Educational Seminar Series: Doctors Are People Too - How Research Can Inform Policy and Practice by Professor Jennifer Cleland
by Jennifer Cleland, Professor of Medical Education and Vice-Dean (Education), Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine, Nanyang Technological University Singapore
Event Information: Matching medical workforce supply to health need is a global issue. Although the absolute number of doctors in many countries continues to grow, the medical workforce is unevenly distributed by locality and some specialties are more popular than others. Many areas within the UK struggle to recruit and retain trainees and doctors. This lecture draws on a 10-year programme of work to highlight the factors most valued by medical students and trainees in terms of their career choices and personal priorities. The seminar concludes by discussing the implications of this contemporary evidence for governments and healthcare organisations in relation to recruiting and retaining today’s generation of doctors.
