Event details

Abstract

Dengbêjs are Kurdish oral poets who most often perform oral traditions without any instrumental accompaniment. Having functioned as an essential medium in the historical transmission of the Kurdish language and culture, dengbêjs' narratives encompass a wide range of topics including love, conflict, and history. This talk focuses on the narratives of the two renowned dengbêjs by the name of Reso and Åžakiro.

Dr Metin Yüksel received his PhD at the University of Chicago's Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations in 2011. He teaches at Hacettepe University in Ankara.
