The pandemic has affected all students currently working towards national qualifications. However, the impact on Home Educated young people has been unprecedented.
Our research has shown that up to 50% of Home Educated young people have SEND with a significant number coming from single parent families and low-income families. Home Educated young people have historically faced mixed results when it comes to gaining entry to further (FE) and higher education (HE). Our research during the pandemic has shown that in 2020 and 2021 gaining access to FE and HE education has become increasingly difficult, with many having lost their conditional offers due to exam cancellations and missing grades.
Our aim with this conference is to open up dialogue about alternative pathways and Home Education friendly applications, through engagement and examples of widening participation, to support accessible entry pathways for this hard to reach and systematically disadvantaged group.
Join us to hear Home Educated young people give first-hand experiences of the impact of exam cancellations and how that has affected their ability to gain entry to higher and further education. We will also hear from Home Education policy experts and previously Home Educated graduates discussing their experiences of College and University.
