Green(ing) mosques : Experiences and experiments from Southeast Asia and the UK

This is an informal conversation aimed at discussing the motivations underpinning these initiatives, some of their key features, and possible challenges they have faced, with a diverse range of speakers from the mosque, architectural, charitable, and University sectors. Each presentation (20 mins) will be followed by a Q&A session (10 mins).

Speakers:  
• Dr. Asmawati Muhamad (Malaysia): Lead of Imarah Green Project at the Mosque of the Academy of Islamic Studies - University of Malaya 
• Architect Azim A Aziz (Malaysia): Designer of the Gren Mosque Masjid Raja Fisabilillah – Cyberjaya, the first mosque in the country to be recognized with a green building platinum status 
• Dr. Hayu Susilo Prabowo (Indonesia): Founder of the EcoMasjid Initiative, which aims to ‘green up’ mosques across the country 
• Harfiyah Haleem (UK): Trustee of The Islamic Foundation for Ecology and Environmental Sciences – IFEES, which has been running since 2005 Green Mosques projects in the UK 
• Imam Dr. Sejad Mekić (UK): Main Imam of the Cambridge Central Mosque, Europe’s first eco-mosque
