Dr. Elham Fakhro "The Abraham Accords: One Year On"

Visiting Speaker event (Visiting Scholar, Centre for Gulf Studies)

Event details

Lecture Title: The Abraham Accords: One Year On

A year has passed since the signing of the Abraham Accords, a diplomatic agreement brokered by the Trump administration that established diplomatic ties
between Israel and two Gulf states: the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain. The talk will examine the evolving political, economic, and security relations between the two Gulf states and Israel in the 12 months since the signing of the Accords, and the factors driving a broader Gulf-Israel rapprochement. It will also assess what the accords have meant for the Palestinians, particularly in light of the May 2020 attacks on Gaza, in addition to broader prospects for Palestinian statehood.

Short biography: Elham Fakhro is a Visiting Scholar at the Center for Gulf Studies. She previously acted as Senior Gulf Analyst with the International Crisis Group, and as a Lecturer in International Law at NYU Abu Dhabi.
