GSI Seminar Series : Natalie Whitehead, Exeter Science Centre: Engaging the public to change the world: The crucial role of science centres in creating global citizens

Exeter Science Centre is an education charity carrying out STEAMM (Science, Tech, Engineering, Arts, Maths, Medicine) engagement projects with schools and the public. In parallel, we are working towards creating a building to house our organisation, providing a permanent space for exhibitions and events.

Event details

Our mission is to educate, motivate and empower the public to make a difference in the world. We are passionate about getting the public on board with tackling global issues, and we feel the best way to do this is through: 1) education, 2) building connections between the public and practitioners from a broad range of disciplines working to tackle these issues, and 3) empowering people to play a role in mitigating them.

We want to radically reimagine the role of science centres in society, as cultural centres which are created in collaboration with the communities that they serve. In this talk, we’ll discuss our ethos and motivation, our progress so far, our plans for the future and how everybody can get involved.
