Visiting Speaker: Professor llario Meandri and Dr Giulia Ferdeghini

llario Meandri, associated professor, teaches ethnomusicology at the University of Turin. He has conducted field research in Italy (alpine and urban carnivals); Liguria and northern Italy (on paraliturgical singing and oral tradition polyvocality); the United States and Rome (on mainstream North American film soundtracks-an ethnomusicological investigation of the work of the film music composer in Hollywood-on Italian noisemakers and sound-makers and the history of sound post-production practices and technologies in Italy). He has published essays and books both in the field of "classical" ethnomusicology and on film music and film sound. He currently conducts research in digital humanitites and ethnomusicology.

Giulia Ferdeghini obtained her PhD at the University of Rome "la Sapienza" (Ethnomusicology) with a thesis on the kurdish oral epic of Dimdm in Bahdinan. She is currently Research Fellow at the Department of Humanities of the University of Turin where she deals with Linked Open data and knowledge representation systems in the ethnomusicological domain within two National Research Projects. She teaches Ethnomusicology at the University of Turin. She studied Kurdish musical culture and works in a research group sponsored by the Ugo and Olga Levi Foundation on Kurdish epic and narrative song.
