Digital Literacy of Second Language Teachers Symposium (hybrid event)

Event details

Rapid technological development offers fundamentally new language learning methods with enormous potential. As we all have experienced, technology has changed how we live, work, and socialize. It is also changing the way we learn and interact. There are many advantages of technologies in assisting language learning, but that poses a big challenge for teachers and learners as a new way of learning requires different skills and competencies.

School of Education of the University of Exeter is hosting a symposium on digital literacies for second language education on 17 and 18 August, as part of the ESRC-funded project (Developing digital literacies for second/foreign language teachers), led by Professor Li Li. This project has successfully organised four seminars delivered by renowned international speakers, conducted an international survey, and brought together researchers and research users interested in promoting the digital literacies of second language teachers in secondary schools. This project also allows researchers to share the best practice and enhance knowledge exchange across cultures and raise awareness of language teachers in developing both digital literacies. Broader issues such as equal access, ethics, and well-being around digital literacies are explored too. If you would like to know about this project, please get in touch with Professor Li Li  li.li@exeter.ac.uk

The symposium will be delivered in a hybrid format across two days, involving speakers from different social, cultural, and educational contexts. Speakers are from the UK, Saudi Arabia, USA, China mainland Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau. They will present their most recent research in digital literacies in second-language education, ranging from digital literacies for teachers and mobile technologies to Augmented Reality and Artificial Intelligence.

If you are interested in technology use in language education or would like to find out the most updated research in the field, please register your attendance by Wednesday August 16th 2023, 6pm here (food and drinks will be provided at the symposium).  If you have any queries regarding the registration, please get in touch with Belinda dl483@exeter.ac.uk.
