Talk hosted by Professor Helen Berry and members of the exhibition team. This exhibition explores the events that led to the creation of the Kingdom of Iraq in 1921 and the role played by archaeologist and colonial administrator Gertrude Bell. Told through the unique photographic and documentary heritage of the UNESCO Gertrude Bell Archive at Newcastle University Special collections, and co-curated with colleagues from the University of Exeter’s Special Collections and the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies.
