This transdisciplinary talk is hosted jointly by the Language and Education Network and CRISTEME. It is of interest to all staff and students interested in in international school projects, language education, STEAM education and/or climate education. All welcome.
Over the last year, the programme of Schools Across The Ocean · GreenFutures (exeter.ac.uk) programme has twinned 13 coastal schools in the British Isles and the United Arab Emirates using a cross-curricular approach to climate education. The programme used a multilingual dialogic pedagogy with Arabic medium and English medium schools and created a bilingual poetry book which was showcased at COP28, and launched on 5 March on St Lukes Campus. An understanding of creativity within multiple disciplines enacted through multilingual dialogic teaching and learning lies at the heart of the approach. This LEN/CRISTEME event shares the voices of the project leads, teachers and children on their journey to discover ways in which multilingual, STEAM approaches can support teaching about education for sustainable development, climate action and social justice.
A discussion session will follow the presentation of the Schools Across the Ocean project to explore the research base and connections enacted through this project and consider possible future research drawing on the approach presented.
This seminar will be on campus and streamed. Remote participants can interact via the chat function.
Venue: Baring Court 03, St Luke's Campus and online via Zoom.
