Abstract
We indicate how certain families of integer matrices can be classified, and indeed depicted, with the aid of Cauchy interlacing. New generalisations of Dynkin diagrams are part of the story. We speculate about how these generalisations might have similar ubiquitous applications to the classical diagrams. This is joint work with James McKee.
