Abstract
The four speakers, their topics, and brief abstracts appear below. Presentations will be short (7-8 minutes), followed by time for discussion.
- Prof. Anni Vanhatalo (Human Physiology): Title TBA
-
Dr. Laura Colomboi (Management Studies): Scaling Post-Growth Organisations – Insights from Italian Social Agricultural Cooperatives.
This presentation will explore the Italian approach to social farming, known as Agricoltura Sociale, and how Social Agricultural Cooperatives (SACs) serve as examples of post-growth organizations. We will discuss strategies for scaling the impact of SACs, emphasizing diverse and synergistic approaches that promote human and ecological flourishing.
-
Dr. Paul Cleave (Rural Policy Research): Devon’s Evolving Food History
Devon’s food has a long and evolving history entwined with its landscape, climate, and people. It is a narrative embracing horticulture, farming, fishing, and hospitality. The food eaten in the farmhouses and cottages tells a story of unpretentious dishes which used local, seasonal produce and appealed to its visitors. Whether Clovelly Herrings, cheese, or a cream tea, Devon’s food history teaches us much about the county’s culture and traditions.
Owing to our past departures from the recognised pechakucha format (e.g., 20 slides for 20 seconds each; perhaps too regimented for online talks!), we are playfully renaming our talks as the Exeter Food Mezze Seminar Series (a mixed offer of small taster dishes!).
These events are designed to allow us to familiarise ourselves with what colleagues across the university with shared interests in food are working on, to offer them valuable commentary, and to generate ideas for future collaborations.
The first session of the 2024-2025 year will be held on TEAMS from 9:45-11:15am on Thursday 10 October.
We look forward to seeing you there!
