Event details
Professor Claire Belcher who leads the wildFIRE Lab here at Exeter will talk about a new initiative called ExeterFire. The aim is to not only to connect wildfire experts at U. Exeter but to build a network and via links with Exeter Innovation create easy access to wildfire experts who stretch a myriad of disciplines, that are able to novel solutions and advice to the outside world helping to solve this ‘wicked problem’. This seminar is not only a timely with wildfire very much dominating the world news of the last few weeks but aims to provide an overview of just some of the diverse wildfire research ranging from the development of new wildfire prediction systems, and those that aim to aid multi-objective land-use decisions, effects on aquatic life through to aerosol modelling for extreme wildfire event.
Come and listen to Claire Belcher, Remy Vandaele, Garfield Kwan and Stephen Sitch provide some brief snippets of some of their research that emphasises the diversity of research on fire at Exeter, help us spread the word and identify all the members of our university that work on wildfire topics.
Claire is Professor and Chair of Wildland Fire. Her research seeks to understand the impact of fires on ecosystems and the longer-term functioning of our planet. Claire is Director of the wildFIRE Lab and experimental wildFIRE Laboratory see https://wildfire-lab.com/ The wildFIRE Lab teams works across the fire sciences building new understanding of the impacts of fire behaviour on ecosystems through to understanding how variations in flammability across scales influences fire adaptations and evolutionary innovations in plants and the ability of wildfires to influence feedbacks to Earth system processes.
