J&VS Network Workshop: Critical and Creative Approaches to Trauma-Informed

This one-day workshop will people together to discuss the methods and challenges of trauma-informed research and practice.

Event details

This one-day workshop brings together academics, practitioners and the community sector to discuss the methods and challenges of trauma-informed research and practice.

We invite expressions of interest for short presentations of 10-15 minutes, or other interventions, on the theme of critical thinking and creativity in trauma-informed practice.

The workshop is open to researchers, members of the third sector, practitioners, artists and activists.

Contributions might explore what trauma-informed practice is and the different methods that are used to understand and respond to trauma, including questions such as:

  • What is the aim or purpose of taking a trauma-informed approach?

  • How has trauma-informed practice evolved and adapted to different contexts and challenges?

  • What are the different strands of trauma-informed work that exist, and how helpful is the term for making sense of how individuals and communities respond to issues of structural violence or state violence?

  • What are the different ways in which trauma-informed work is understood, and how is it interpreted and given meaning in different settings?

  • What challenges, tensions or ethical conundrums might arise in trauma-informed practice, and how might one respond to them?

  • How can creative practice be used to respond to the trauma of others or for self-care and protecting against the effects of secondary trauma?

The workshop will be an opportunity to share ideas, best practice and critical discussion, and will provide the opportunity to network with others who centre a trauma-informed approach in their work or who are working on issues of individual or collective trauma and want to engage in further thinking around this term.

Please submit your expression of interest by Thursday 17th April 2025.
