Assessing Confidence in the Evidence from Reviews of Qualitative research – the CERQual tool; Dr Ruth Garside, Senior Lecturer in Evidence Synthesis

Qualitative Research Support Group Seminar Systematic reviews and evidence syntheses of qualitative research are increasingly being used to inform health policy and practice. This presentation will describe CERQual (Confidence in the Evidence from Reviews of Qualitative Research): a transparent approach aimed at helping decision makers to decide how much confidence they should place in such reviews’ findings when making recommendations.

Dr Ruth Garside is a social science researcher specialising in systematic review and evidence synthesis.

Dr Garside has over 15 years’ experience using quantitative and qualitative research methods to investigate a range of health and social care questions. Her work has informed national policy customers including the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) and the Home Office.

Dr Garside is particularly interested in using a broad range of evidence to investigate complex public health issues and has a particular interest in methods of synthesis for qualitative research.
