Why there is more to gene evolution than protein function

The lecture will examine some of the mechanisms by which mutations can be deleterious

Particular emphasis will be placed on the impact of mutations that are often considered to be innocuous and hence overlooked, notably synonymous mutations. It will highlight the role of exonic splicing control in determining features as disparate as amino acid content of proteins and the etiology of multiple genetic diseases.
