The Fall of the Ottomans: The Great War in the Middle East, 1914-20

As the Great War is remembered in the rest of the world, the part the Ottomans played in that conflict must be taken into account. For it was the Ottoman front, with its Asian battlefields and global soldiers, that turned Europe's Great War into the First World War. And the consequences of that war still resonate in the modern Middle East today.


Event details

Eugene Rogan is Professor of Modern Middle Eastern History at the University of Oxford and Director of the Modern Middle East Centre at St Antony's College, Oxford.  He took his BA in Economics from Columbia and his MA and PhD in Middle Eastern History from Harvard.  He taught at Boston College and Sarah Lawrence College before taking up his post in Oxford in 1991.
