From the Clinic to the Population: Making Interventions Scalable

Abstract: Empirical trials have unquestionably improved the clinical care for people diagnosed with mental disorders. This growth is both important and impressive. But how well do clinical principles apply beyond the therapy room? This talk will explore this question by examining evidence across multiple levels of analysis and contexts, including clinical trials, epidemiological studies, and laboratory examinations, with attention to potential mechanisms of action underlying change. These different elements will be tied together and the scalability of interventions explored. Biography: Andrew Gloster is Professor of Clinical Psychology and Intervention Science at the University of Basel, Switzerland. Professor Gloster is a world leading expert in treatment mechanisms in exposure based and Acceptance and Commitment therapy. He has conducted cutting edge research examining the role of genomics and psychological processes in treatment outcome, with a focus on psychological flexibility and values-based changes. He is currently conducting innovative process-related research using lab-based and event sampling methods to investigate how therapist behaviours, psychological flexibility, approach behaviours, and social networks change in a trans diagnostic ACT treatment and how to promote prosocial behaviour outside the clinic.
