Academic staff
We can work in partnership with you to support your students throughout their academic journey. This page outlines the services and support available to you and your students.
The Library can provide advice and guidance on learning resources to support the development of new programmes and modules. You are advised to contact your Academic Liaison Librarian as early as possible in the planning process to discuss purchasing required resources, licensing and accessibility.
The Library can advise on book, journal and subscription purchases to resource your modules. Further information about making requests for resources and subscriptions can be found in our Library resourcing guide.
To ensure that the Library purchases the resources your students will need, you'll need to send us your module reading lists for digitisation. Library staff will then check for the availability of resources, purchase any items not available and in some cases digitise chapters and articles within the CLA Higher Education copyright licence.
Once complete, you and your students will have an online list, accessible from ELE which links out to your module reading. Resource lists can be customised to display week by week readings, or key and recommended readings. To find out more please visit our resource list guide.
Support is available for your students in finding, using and evaluating information. We offer a range of online and in-person support for students across a variety of topics. You can find out more details in our Learning and teaching offer document.
To discuss support for your students, just get in touch with your liaison librarian who will be happy to discuss your requirements and provide tailored support for your module or programme.
1:1 appointments are also available for any student requiring tailored guidance or training from a Librarian on finding and using information sources for their assessments.
Your main contact within the Library will be your Academic Liaison Librarian. Their role is to support you and your students to make full use of the resources for learning and research.
If you are a new member of staff and would like to find out more about library services take a look at our staff guide.
Our special collections team can advise on how you can use items from our special collections to support learning and teaching and can provide taught sessions on using archives and rare materials. Find out more about our Special Collections.
Use our checklist for new staff to ensure your research outputs comply with the requirements of the Research Excellence Framework (REF) and the university's open access and data management policy. The checklist details the steps you need to take to ensure your research is compliant and your digital identity up to date on our systems. You can find out more about Open Research and research data management on our webpages.

The copyright toolkit is intended to answer any questions you might have about copyright, by guiding you to the relevant information.
Use the 'Copyright and you' section as a starting point to take you to particular scenarios relevant to your work . There is a specific section on your work as a lecturer which guides you to information about considering copyright when creating materials for lectures, online modules, exam questions or commercial courses.
The sections on 'Copyright licences' and 'UK copyright law' provide more information about the licensing and legal frameworks that underpin activities carried out within the University.
