Earth and Environmental Sciences consists of 55 faculty academic staff with established research and teaching excellence in a number of fields including; Earth observation (remote sensing, drone science); Earth system processes; marine science; Earth history; environmental mathematics and data science; environmental social science; human geography and spatial analysis.

The European Centre for Environment and Human Health is a world leading, transdisciplinary research and education centre informing the future health of the planet and people. We conduct world-class research, investigating the complex interdependencies between environment and human health, influencing decision makers at local, national and international scales.

HaSS Cornwall is the home of unique and engaging interdisciplinary degree programmes that combine our research with our core subject expertise and teaching excellence. Our research, teaching, and impact are the product of collaborations across our department’s core disciplines (English Literature, History, Law, Modern Languages, Environmental Humanities, and Political Science), as well as with our colleagues across the University and businesses and communities across Cornwall.

Sustainable Futures is an interdisciplinary department with strong collaborative links with other departments, research centres and institutes across campus. Our activities aim to co-develop knowledge and practices that can be applied in research, impact and educational programmes to support organisations and individuals, particularly looking at resilient, sustainable and regenerative development pathway. The department is a model for cross-disciplinary collaborations in order to build a vibrant and impactful research agenda. This strategies involves enhancing existing research activities and collaborations, and building new interdisciplinary opportunities in specified areas.
