This accessibility statement applies to experts.exeter.ac.uk Symplectic Elements Discovery Module

This website is run for the University of Exeter. It is designed to be usable by as many people as possible. The text should be clear and simple to understand. You should be able to:

  • zoom in up to 400% without problems
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • use most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

How accessible this website is

Some parts of this website may not be fully accessible:

  • Some 3rd party content is known not to be accessible.
  • Two visual components (specifically the ‘collaboration networks’ feature and the Media feature) are not available to users at 400% zoom. The collaboration network feature is also not fully accessible for use with screenreaders.

To minimise the risk of encountering non-accessible pages in the Discovery Module you could:

  • disable Altmetric badges (see point 1)
  • use the desktop site in preference to viewing the website on a mobile device (see point 4 below)
  • disable the ‘collaboration networks’ feature (see point 5 below).

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance accessibility regulations

  1. The Discovery Module only partially supports WCAG criteria 4.1.1 (“Parsing”)
    Valid HTML/CSS is always produced when the application is developed; the development environment is configured to ensure this. However, there is at present a duplicate ID problem with an external product integration (specifically, an Altmetric badge). The problem has been reported and the Altmetric team are working to resolve it, but, if full compliance is required immediately, such badges can be disabled in the Discovery Module configuration.
  2. The Discovery Module only partially supports WCAG criteria 1.4.10 (“Reflow”)
  3. The website does support zooming to 400% through the use of responsive design and a dedicated mobile (320 pixel wide) view. However, the full range of functionality is not yet available as we do not yet support the use of  the Media feature or the Collaboration Networks feature in this mode. We are working towards addressing this in future releases. Users visiting the site via a desktop device can have use of the full feature set up to a 200% zoom.
  4. The Discovery Module’s ‘collaboration networks’ feature fails to comply with several WCAG success criteria.
  5. A particular visual component (specifically the ‘collaboration networks’ feature) is not accessible due to it being impossible to adequately represent the visual nature of the information in table format. If full compliance is required immediately, it is possible to disable the ‘collaboration networks’ feature in the Discovery Module configuration.
