Campus Cleaning

Facilities Management (cleaning services)

The team of circa 200 cleaning staff provide a 24/7, 365 day a year cleaning service across both campuses in support of academic building and student accommodation

The University of Exeter’s Cleaning Teams provide a range of cleaning services across both our Exeter campuses and University owned and managed accommodation in the city.

All staff are qualified and trained to BICSc (British Institute of Cleaning Science) standards and follow their guidance on cleaning. 

We support staff and students in their day-to-day work and life around Campuses, as well as providing additional support for external events taking place on site.

User responsibilities

  1. Please contact the relevant person on the Key Contact list for any spillage or clean up required
  2. Support the University's waste and recycling scheme and use the correct recycle bins

What we do and don't do

The duties of our team alongside our expectations from the building staff to ensure the areas are kept to the highest standards.

Vacuum the floor monthly (large open offices will be done fortnightly)

Clean work surfaces, ledges, skirting (if clear) fortnightly or monthly

Corridors - vacuum weekly

Internal windows will be cleaned where necessary

Clean computer screens, keyboards, mouse

Move personal belongings

Clean boards in offices or corridors

Clear up spillages immediately

Ensure surfaces are clear of belongings, if cleaning required

Ensure waste disposed of in correct bins

Report faults or damage to the helpdesk

Sweep/mop/vacuum the floor weekly

Wipe work surfaces (if clear of equipment), skirtings, walls and ledges weekly

Empty bins 2-3 times per week

Provide blue paper roll

Provide cleaning equipment or products

Put away crockery or cutlery

Empty/load the dishwasher

Provide, clear and clean your own cutlery and crockery

Clean microwave/fridge

Clear up spillages immediately

Provide your own cleaning materials and store correctly

Ensure surfaces are clear and clean after every use

Ensure food waste and packaging is disposed of in correct bins

Remove glass/tin waste

Report faults or damage to Help Desk

Vacuum/mop the floor 3 times per week

Visually inspect, litter pick up and wipe tables daily if necessary

Empty recycle bins daily if necessary

Windows will be cleaned regularly (where necessary)

Clean ledges/skirting boards weekly

Clean computer screens, keyboards, mouse

Move personal belongings

Clean boards in offices or corridors

Clear up spillages immediately

Ensure surfaces clear of belongings if cleaning required

Ensure waste disposed of in correct bins

Report faults or damage to the helpdesk
