Clinical Research Governance

Research involving the NHS or social care settings requires a legal 'sponsor' to comply with legislation and policy.  Where health-related research involves human participants, their tissue or data, requires an organisation to agree to act as a 'sponsor'.  This involves taking on oversight responsibilities for study initiation, on-going management and research quality.

The Clinical Research Governance Team ("Sponsorship Team") help researchers meet with regulatory requirements, institutional standards and good practice guidelines.  They provide advice on obtaining approvals for health and social care research, issue "sponsorship" for studies meeting University criteria and maintain oversight of active studies.   Please contact the Sponsorship Team if your study involves the NHS, social care settings or His Majesties Prison and Probation Service.
