Cornwall Communications and Marketing team
Our team is responsible for supporting all the communication and marketing activities in Cornwall – at the Penryn Campus and at the Knowledge Spa in Truro. We work to ensure that Cornwall is fully represented in the University’s internal and external communications, liaising closely with the internal comms and student comms teams, the press office, the Campaigns team, the social media team and numerous other touchpoints across the University to do this. We collate and write content for inclusion in the staff and student newsletters and produce ad hoc comms, so that our staff and students are aware of campus-specific news and events. We manage and support filming and photography projects to promote our courses, facilities, and student life and to fulfil media requests. We promote University and partner events.
Our activities support student recruitment by way of creation of marketing content and materials as well as participation in recruitment and conversion campaigns.
We also work closely with community partners and stakeholders to ensure they are kept up to date on the University’s activities in Cornwall and we produce a termly community newsletter to share our news, events and student achievements with residents in Penryn, Mabe and Falmouth.
Our team manages the University of Exeter, Cornwall website and the @UniExeCornwall social media channels to deliver up-to-date information, share our research news, carry out marketing for recruitment, and give and insight into the life of the University in Cornwall.
We meet regularly with our comms colleagues in the Falmouth and Exeter Students’ Union (the SU), Falmouth University and FX Plus to collaborate on campaigns and to ensure, where possible, important messaging to our staff and students is aligned across our campuses.
We work from our homes and at Penryn Campus and have a shared inbox – cornwallcomms@exeter.ac.uk.
The Cornwall Communications and Marketing team is led by Rachel Caunter – Campaign Manager.
I joined the University as a Communications and Marketing Officer in December 2016 and became a Campaign Manager in August 2018. Prior to joining Exeter, I had a long and varied sales and marketing career at Black and Decker European HQ in Berkshire. This gave me a wealth of skills and experience to transfer to roles in the HE sector, firstly at Falmouth University where I delivered multimedia recruitment campaigns, created prospectuses and marketing materials, communication campaigns, and supported a re-brand.
I love being part of a close-knit team in Cornwall, whilst also working with a huge number of people across the institution, our campus partners and local stakeholders.
I’m lucky to be able to walk to the beach from where I live in Cornwall with my family and energetic dog. I enjoy gig rowing and travel.

I joined the Cornwall Communications and Marketing team in January 2022. My role involves creating and sharing content that is relevant to the Cornwall Campuses and making sure we communicate all the wonderful support, events and opportunities that are available to students, staff, and the wider community.
I contribute to PR, internal, student and community newsletters, prospectuses, guides, and social media all with a view to ensuring that the right information is available for people based on Cornwall campuses.
I have had a wide-ranging marketing and communications career working in academic journals, technology, insurance and manufacturing. In 2014 I became a Chartered Marketer.

I joined the Cornwall Communications and Marketing team in November 2024. Before this, I completed a Master’s in Entrepreneurship at Falmouth University whilst I grew the Wylder community—an app that encourages mindfulness through nature. Developing Wylder gave me valuable experience in building and engaging an online community, a skill I now apply to our social media channels as we create content and share everything from upcoming events to the natural beauty of the Penryn Campus. Studying here gave me firsthand experience of the unique outdoor environment it offers.
Being part of a close-knit team makes this role even more enjoyable, as we work to showcase all our campus has to offer.
Living locally, I enjoy exploring the wider Cornwall area and can often be found walking my dog on the beach or taking a cold-water dip.
