Cornwall Wellbeing Network (CWN)

The Cornwall Wellbeing Network (CWN) is a campus community network that aims to promote positive wellbeing by providing opportunities for those working on the Cornwall campuses to connect with each other and engage in activities to prioritise their mental and emotional health and wellbeing. The CWN is overseen by a small committee of staff volunteers who are passionate about wellbeing and the importance of promoting open and candid conversations about mental health.

The CWN is the Cornwall arm of the Exeter Wellbeing Network, providing wellbeing-focused events and activities to staff across the Penryn, Truro and Falmouth campuses. If you are looking for information about events at Streatham or St Lukes, please visit the Exeter Wellbeing Network page here.

We are primarily a social network; throughout the year we organise a wide variety of different events and activities that are designed to give participants the space and time to reflect on and prioritise their wellbeing. Events are usually held on campus during core hours to make them as easy as possible to attend and to encourage staff to take a proper break during their working day. Recent activities have included:

  • Yoga and meditation courses
  • Qigong workshops
  • Pilates classes
  • Self-development workshops
  • Guided walks
  • Expert seminars
  • Our monthly campus-wide Fika (more information in the Fika tab!)
  • A staff sea shanty choir

Our events are advertised in staff newsletters and bulletins within the various organisations based at the Cornwall campuses. They are also advertised in the events listings at the bottom of the FX Plus Hub SharePoint.

You can also receive reminders and information about our events straight into your inbox! Simply complete this form: Join the Wellbeing Network! to be added to the Wellbeing Network Teams group where you can connect with other members of the Exeter and Cornwall Wellbeing Networks, share ideas and resources, and hear about all the lovely things we are organising for our communities.

We are always on the lookout for ideas and suggestions; if there is an activity that you would like to see on this list then please let us know!

The CWN is for anyone with an interest in mental health and wellbeing who wants to connect with other like-minded individuals and start embedding the practice of self-care into their daily lives.

A primary objective of the network is to cultivate a vibrant campus community and so all staff and postgraduates from Exeter, Falmouth, FX Plus, the Student Union, and any other organisation connected to the Cornwall campuses are welcome to join.

If you would like to join the network and be added to our Teams site and mailing list, please sign up using this form: Join the Wellbeing Network!

Join us as we celebrate the Swedish concept of "Fika" in a campus-wide, cross-departmental tea-time social open to staff from every faculty and department within the University of Exeter, Falmouth University, FX Plus, the SU, and any organisation affiliated with the Penryn, Falmouth and Truro campuses.

Date: The third Tuesday of each month
Time: 2:30pm
Location: Stella Turk or Peter Lanyon common room

What is Fika?

Fika is a cherished Swedish tradition that involves taking a break, savouring coffee (or tea), and enjoying delectable treats. It's more than just a coffee break; it's an inclusive social activity that promotes relaxation and socialising. The term "fika" is derived from the Swedish word "kaffe" (coffee) and is akin to the concept of a coffee break or coffee time, but it goes beyond just drinking coffee.

Why Fika?

We believe that fostering a sense of community is vital, and what better way to do that than over coffee and conversation? Fika allows us to take a moment to unwind, socialise, and get to know one another better.

What to Expect:

  • A welcoming environment
  • Friendly conversations and an opportunity to meet new people
  • Sweet treats
  • A selection of teas, coffee and cold drinks. Please bring your own mug!

We can't wait to see you at our next monthly Fika gathering! Come and enjoy some coffee, treats, and great company. Let's make our campus community stronger one Fika at a time.

How to join?

If you would like to join Fika, simply turn up! Upcoming events are advertised in staff newsletters and in the Wellbeing Network Teams group (simply fill out this form to join the group!)
