International Women's Day 2024
International Women’s Day (IWD) is an annual celebration of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women around the world. It also marks a call to action for collective progress towards achieving gender equality.
IWD takes place on Friday 8 March 2024. This year’s official theme is #InspireInclusion and the UN Women theme is Invest in women: Accelerate progress.
At the University of Exeter, our priority is to ensure a sense of belonging for all gender identities, including trans and non-binary staff and students. You can find out more about some of our work on this page.
If you have any events, resources or support you would like listed here, please email EDI@exeter.ac.uk.

Athena Swan applications and awards
The Athena Swan Charter recognises work undertaken by institutions in the United Kingdom to address gender equality across the higher education sector. The University of Exeter submitted an institutional Silver application for the Athena Swan charter in January 2024. We will publish our related action plan in the coming months. You can also find out more about our most recent departmental awards.
Pledge to end sexism in medicine
Our Medical School has joined a number of other institutions across the country in signing the British Medical Association's 'joint pledge to end sexism in medicine'. The pledge brings together organisations and groups who will work in partnership with the BMA to address sexism. The BMA hope the pledge will bring together groups with influence over the medical profession to collaborate and use varied areas of impact to make meaningful changes.
