External Resources
The following sections provide information on the external bodies that inform the operation of the academic quality system, and the resources they provide.
The QAA is the independent body entrusted with monitoring and advising on standards and quality in UK higher education. Useful information provided by the QAA includes:
-
Quality Code 2024. The UK Quality Code is a sector-led reference point, which can be used in a range of flexible ways. Built on a shared understanding across the UK, the Quality Code enables providers to see what is expected of them and what they can expect of each other, irrespective of the regulatory framework in which they operate.
-
Subject Benchmark Statements. Subject Benchmark Statements describe the nature of study and the academic standards expected of graduates in specific subject areas. They show what graduates might reasonably be expected to know, do and understand at the end of their studies.
-
Characteristics Statements. Characteristics Statements describe the distinctive features of qualifications at particular levels within the Qualifications Frameworks.
Other QAA Guidance documents:
Consumer protection law applies to the relationship between the University of Exeter and offer-holders and current students.
PDQE has produced a Student Consumer Rights Document, which provides further information about student rights in relation to changing modules and programmes.
Useful information provided by the CMA includes:
The Office for Students (OfS) is a non-departmental public body of the Department for Education, acting as the regulator and competition authority for the higher education sector in England. Providers need to meet OfS requirements for the quality and standards of courses on offer.
