Programme Amendments
Depending on the magnitude of the proposed change(s), programme amendments will fall into the following categories:
- significant
- moderate
- minor
A helpful table detailing the categories of amendments to existing programmes is available in Section 5.3 of the Approval and Revision of Taught Modules and Programmes Handbook (ARTMAP).
Additionally, a flowchart of the process can be found here: Programme Amendments Flowchart.
Please note that existing programmes undergoing significant amendment must instead go through the new programme approval process.
It is important that Faculties should avoid any in-year amendments to programmes. Where such changes are unavoidable they must be communicated by the Faculty to any current / prospective students that will be impacted by them, with the consent of those affected gathered also.
For further information, please see this Student Consumer Rights Document in relation to Changing Modules and Programmes. Training for university staff on Students’ Consumer Rights can additionally be accessed via the Learn Upon training platform.
Detailed advice on programme amendments and the forms required can be found in the Approval and Revision of Taught Modules and Programmes Handbook.
For further advice about programme amendments, please contact your relevant Faculty Quality Enhancement Team.
Faculties may wish to introduce a programme with very similar content to an existing programme. This might include introduction of a new part-time route, addition of a year / years of study to permit students to undertake a placement or work/study abroad.
Further information about the types of programme variant and the amendment process for each can be found in Section 1.5 of the ARTMAP Handbook.
Faculties may wish to introduce named pathways to an existing programme. Pathways are a particular type of programme variant. A pathway must include at least two thirds of any compulsory credit from the parent programme, on which it is based.
Further information about Pathways can be found in Section 1.6 of the ARTMAP Handbook.
The introduction or removal of named pathways is treated as a moderate amendment to an existing programme, with the requirements for approval stipulated in Chapter 5 of the ARTMAP Handbook.
Some undergraduate courses allow students to choose up to 60 credits of modules in another subject. Such students will be eligible to add the words 'with proficiency in' to their degree title upon graduation.
A list of the subjects currently available can be found here.
There is a specific form to complete for introduction of a new ‘With Proficiency’ pathway, which can be found in Annex 4 of the ARTMAP Handbook.
Please contact the Programme Design team if you wish to set up a new ‘With Proficiency’ pathway (programmedesign@exeter.ac.uk).
Please review Section 5.8 of the ARTMAP Handbook, Changing the Award/Title or Status of a Programme.
A Programme Moderate and Minor Amendment Form (ARTMAP Handbook Annex 2) should be completed and submitted to your Faculty Quality Enhancement Team.
