Student Peer Programme Organisers and Senior Mentor Programme Coordinators

Student Peer Programme Organisers (SPPOs) are students (normally 3rd years) who offer to organise/run a peer scheme. They coordinate the peer mentors providing support to mentees

We are changing the name of this role in 2024/25 to 'Senior Mentor Programme Coordinators'. However while this change is taking place, both titles mean the same.

What is expected of an SPPO / Senior Mentor Programme Coordinator?

If you are interested in being an SPPO or a Coordinator for a scheme, please read our Student Peer Programme Organiser role descriptor for more information on what being an SPPO entails. Please note: some existing schemes may have more specific role descriptors than this.

We have previously asked SPPOs to complete a Workflow as part of your development and to help you with the tasks in your role. On completion of this Workflow, we would acknowledge your role on your Higher Education Achievement Record (HEAR), as we do with Peer Mentors. However, from 2024/25, provided you fulfil all the tasks in your programme's role descriptor by June 2025, we will acknowledge your role in HEAR.

Other benefits

In addition to having your role listed on HEAR, you can count your role towards the Exeter Leaders Award. If you want to connect with us on LinkedIn, we are also happy to acknowledge your work. Please refer to the Peer Mentor Training (Part 1) to see how to do this. You may wish to count your role towards an AFHEA application with us.

If you have any questions about gaining recognition for your role, please email us at peersupport@exeter.ac.ukIf you are a Peer Mentor, please follow the Peer Mentor Workflow.
