Astro Seminar: Introduction to Korean Historical Astronomy

I introduce historical astronomical assets of Korea including records of celestial phenomena and historical astronomical ruins and relics. The talk will start withdolmens(고인돌) and cup marks during the Megalithic period that have information onastronomical direction and constellations. In this review Ifocus on the analyses of some of the astronomical records during the Three Kingdoms Period(삼국시대) and Goryeo(ê³ ë ¤) dynasty to demonstrate how the results can be applied to history and modern science. Ascientific analysis of the Joseon dynasty's stone star chart, (천상열차분야지도 å¤©è±¡åˆ—次分野之圖), will be also reported.
