Introduction to Research Ethics Review
This session is relevant for new Departmental/Discipline Ethics Officers, Research Ethics Committee members, reviewers and administrators. This may also be of interest to supervisors and researchers who would like to know more about how the ethical review process works. It will provide an introduction to theoretical frameworks and codes of practice, the principles of research ethics, the implications for researchers and the process of research ethics review.

Aims of the induction:
• Understand the principles of ethical research design and conduct
• Have an awareness of relevant codes of practice and guidelines
• Know when and how ethical review should be sought for research
• Understand what to look for when carrying out an ethical review
• Know where to find guidance, advice and support
• Understand when and how to refer projects onwards for review or support
• Have an awareness of some relevant legislation and the associated governance processes
