Tsinghua University, China

Tsinghua University's Institute of International and Area Studies and the Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (HASS) first signed a Memorandum of Understanding in 2018 to foster new collaborations, leading to the appointment of a Joint Chair in Area Studies.

The two universities work together regularly across a number of disciplines and often exchange staff through the Exeter / Tsinghua Fellowship, supporting the exchange of both academic and professional services staff to take up short-term  placements at the partner university. The Institute of Arab & Islamic Studies and Tsinghua have established the Digital Archive of the Middle East project, and have developed a Joint PhD in Area Studies.
