Race Equality

  • We have signed up to the British Medical Association’s charter for medical schools to prevent and address racial harassment on campus and on clinical placements.
  • We have produced guidelines for clinical placement providers to support students who wish to wear a hijab or head covering or head scarf.
  • We are one of the founder members of AIMMS, the Academic Intersectionality Mentoring in Medical Schools programme.  AIMMS is the first national medical schools mentoring scheme that connects women from ethnic minority backgrounds at various clinical and non-clinical career pathways to provide them with a chance of acting as mentees and/or mentors to each other and to provide role models.
  • We are proud to be supporting colleagues enrolled on the 100 Black Women Professors NOW programme, a 12-month accelerator and change programme for UK higher education institutions, developed and delivered by the Women’s Higher Education Network. The programme aims to propel equity of opportunity for Black women academics, researchers and PhD students and to deliver a step change in progress for the sector by working with individuals throughout the academic pipeline as well as institutions, managers and leaders.
