Sallie Lamb is an internationally recognised scholar in ageing, disability and rehabilitation and is the Mireille Gillings Professor of Health Innovation. She is also an experienced methodologist in the area of clinical trials and high quality evaluation of health care practice.
As a member of the Faculty Executive Team, Jo Bowtell’s job is to provide clear and effective leadership to the Faculty, promoting a sense of collegiality, ambition, inclusion and a vibrant culture, encouraging productivity and ensuring that the PVC delivers her management of the faculty.
Richard joined the University of Exeter in July 2023, having previously been Head of the University of Leicester Medical School. He is a Professor of Public Health Medicine and an outstanding researcher with an interest in health services research and public health.
Richard is a Professor of Health Economics, pioneering the macro-economic modelling of communicable and non-communicable diseases, the economic analysis of the impact of trade and trade agreements on health and health care across a range of areas, and assessment of fiscal measures related to public health. He was previously the University's Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Strategy Integration and Resources.
Ian Fussell’s key role will be to oversee and look after the education activities of the faculty working together with Daryl Wilkinson, the Associate Dean of Education and other colleagues to achieve this.
Paul Francis is a Professor of Neurochemistry. His primary research interest is the neurochemistry of dementia and in particular the contributions of brain chemistry to cognitive and non-cognitive symptoms.
John Love is a Professor of Synthetic Biology. His research focuses on Synthetic Biology as a multidisciplinary endeavour that aims to rapidly translate cutting edge research into practical applications.
Kate Ellacott is an Associate Professor in Biomedical Neuroscience. Her longstanding research interest is focused on understanding how the brain controls food intake and body weight. She is committed to mentoring students and early career researchers and is enthusiastic about promoting careers in research and academic medicine.
In the LSI, Austin Smith aims to combine mathematical and biophysical approaches with stem cell biology to create an integrated research programme in multicellular assembly and tissue dynamics.
Gordon Brown is Director of the MRC Centre for Medical Mycology, an internationally recognised, world-leading centre of excellence in the field of fungal infections.

Tom is the Director of Faculty Operations (Interim) for the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. He joined Exeter as the Director of College Operations for the College of Social Sciences and International Studies (CSSIS) in 2018 before being DFO for Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences. Prior to this, Tom worked at the University of Bristol as a School Manager between 2013 and 2018. Tom holds a degree and a PhD in music from Dartington College of Arts.
