Clinical Academic Training Hub

Events

Currently, Exeter hosts two mandatory meetings per year, which allow clinical academic trainees to meet each other, to undergo required training (induction etc) and to have the opportunities to present and discuss their research. Trainees are strongly encouraged to join our active peer network, which includes clinical academic trainees in all years of their training. This provides an important resource for advice and support.

A person giving a presentation

Throughout the year, ad-hoc seminars and workshops are run to support clinical academic trainees in progressing to the next steps of their career. These include topics such as ‘preparing an application for an ACL.’

All events will be posted on this page so keep an eye out for these.

We are delighted to invite you to the IAT ACF Research Day in collaboration with University of Exeter on Wednesday 11th September 09:15-15:00. An agenda will follow shortly. Please note there will be induction style material for the new IAT trainees, with alternative workshop style break out rooms for the current IAT and ICA trainees.

Venue and parking:

Please note this event is taking place in a different location to last year. The event will be held on the main University campus in Rolle Building, Room 101, 8AA, Drake Circus, Plymouth PL4 8AA. Unfortunately there is no free parking near the main campus, however there are a number of car parks in the city centre where you can park all day. We would recommend parking at Mayflower Street (East) car park or Drake Circus carpark, both a short walk from the venue. If you are travelling by train, Plymouth train station is also a short walk from the venue.

Presentation slots

There will be a number of short project presentation slots available for ACFs especially for those who did not get the chance to present at the previous IAT ACF Research Day 2023 or the Spring IAT Day 2024 at University of Exeter. Please can you let us know if you would like to present by emailing iatadmin@plymouth.ac.uk.

Lunch

Lunch and refreshments will be provided throughout the day. Please could you let me know if you have any dietary requirements/allergies by replying to iatadmin@plymouth.ac.uk.

As previously, attendance at IAT networking events is mandatory and is added to your academic engagement record.

ICA trainees and SFPs

This invitation is extended you as an optional opportunity and your attendance is, as always, very welcome.

19th and 20th November 2024 at The Queens Hotel, Leeds.

The event is a fantastic opportunity for early career researchers to hear from inspiring speakers, network with peers and understand more about the NIHR. The theme this year is Impact, and will include a packed schedule of keynote speakers, panel discussions, skill sessions and networking opportunities. The event is hybrid with in-person attendance at The Queens Hotel, Leeds, and online streaming for a virtual audience.

To be eligible to attend the conference in person, delegates should be an NIHR Academy Member currently on an NIHR academic path. Priority will be given to those at the start of their Academy awards and those that have not attended the conference previously. Virtual attendance is open to all.

Registration will open shortly.

If you are interested in speaking or exhibiting opportunities, please email academy.comms@nihr.ac.uk.

“These events are really important for us as they provide a rare opportunity to network, foster collaborations and learn from the experiences of other clinical academics. They also allow us to focus on training and development issues that are specific to the clinical academic career pathway.”

Academic Clinical Lecturer in Clinical Genetics at the University of Exeter
