Clinical Academic Training Hub

Events

Currently, Exeter hosts two mandatory meetings per year, which allow clinical academic trainees to meet each other, to undergo required training (induction etc) and to have the opportunities to present and discuss their research. Trainees are strongly encouraged to join our active peer network, which includes clinical academic trainees in all years of their training. This provides an important resource for advice and support.

Throughout the year, ad-hoc seminars and workshops are run to support clinical academic trainees in progressing to the next steps of their career. These include topics such as ‘preparing an application for an ACL.’

All events will be posted on this page so keep an eye out for these.

Autumn Clinical Academic Training Meeting - 11th September in Plymouth.

This is a joint event held by the Universities of Exeter and Plymouth and NHS England Workforce, and will include sessions for new starters as well as for more experienced ACFs and ACLs, in addition to providing valuable networking opportunities.

We encourage all colleagues on the IAT programme to attend if possible. Further details will be available shortly.

NIHR Academy Members Conference 2024 - 19th and 20th November 2024 at The Queens Hotel, Leeds.

The event is a fantastic opportunity for early career researchers to hear from inspiring speakers, network with peers and understand more about the NIHR. The theme this year is Impact, and will include a packed schedule of keynote speakers, panel discussions, skill sessions and networking opportunities. The event is hybrid with in-person attendance at The Queens Hotel, Leeds, and online streaming for a virtual audience.

To be eligible to attend the conference in person, delegates should be an NIHR Academy Member currently on an NIHR academic path. Priority will be given to those at the start of their Academy awards and those that have not attended the conference previously. Virtual attendance is open to all.

Registration will open shortly.

If you are interested in speaking or exhibiting opportunities, please email academy.comms@nihr.ac.uk.

“These events are really important for us as they provide a rare opportunity to network, foster collaborations and learn from the experiences of other clinical academics. They also allow us to focus on training and development issues that are specific to the clinical academic career pathway.”
