Further Study
Would you like to acquire new skills, progress in your career, and continue to learn?
Whether you study on-campus, virtually, or via a blended learning programme, you'll be supported by the University of Exeter's world-class faculty with wide-ranging opportunities to develop interdisciplinary and vocational skills. Options for further study include:
Our CPD courses are designed to develop your skills and abilities and expand your knowledge in key areas of professional learning and practice. They are usually between 10 and 24 hours of study, with several of our courses delivered virtually, and may bear CPD points (see individual course details). They are typically aimed at those already working in or considering moving into the course area, or those that wish to pursue further study and personal development.
We also have postgraduate modules, which are part of our postgraduate programmes, that may be taken individually with or without credits (i.e.with or without assessment) for the purposes of CPD.
If you are interested in attending a postgraduate module (see below) on a non-credit-bearing basis (without the assessment), please contact the CPD Team at the College of Medicine and Health, UEMS_CPD@exeter.ac.uk
However, if you are interested in attending a module with credits, please contact us.
Our postgraduate programmes (PGCert, PGDip and Master's courses) equip you with the advanced skills and knowledge you need to progress in your chosen career, improve your employment prospects, and develop your expertise.
Postgraduate programmes are divided into units of study called ‘modules’ that are assigned a number of ‘credits’. The credit rating of a module is proportional to the total workload, with one credit being nominally equivalent to 10 hours of work. A 15 credit module is therefore equivalent to 150 hours of work.
A PGCert may be gained by completing 60 credits of postgraduate modules at level 7 (i.e. Master's level modules).

The programme in Health Data Science is a platform to many exciting career opportunities in health data in the UK and abroad. The first cohort of students have moved into new careers in the National Health Service, industry and research, including positions in data science & AI, with the Office of National Statistics, and PhDs in the USA, University College London and Cancer Research UK.
The programme provides a chance to learn and apply your quantitative skills (e.g. computing, maths, statistics) in a health and medical setting, even if you have had no experience in health, medicine or biology. Current students include those from Maths, Engineering, Computer Science backgrounds as well as those from Medicine and Bioscience and some are Professionals in the NHS. But they all share and start the course with data skills – the programme is about improving those existing skills and applying them in a health care and biomedical setting
You can take individual modules, accumulate modules to a PGDip or PGCert, or enrol in the full MSc. The MSc can be taken part-time over 2 or 3 years. Please contact the Programme Director for further information.
