Entry requirements

Minimum 2:2 honours or equivalent in a relevant science subject. Relevant subjects include biological sciences, medical sciences, cell biology, anatomy, microbiology, neuroscience, pharmacology, physiology, or molecular biology.

This programme is also open to intercalating medical students who have completed at least 360 credits (CATS) of medical training.

Students with 2:1 or 1st class honours degrees in related science subjects such as psychology, sports science, physics, chemistry, natural sciences, mathematics, or statistics may be admitted at the discretion of the programme director. A personal statement, detailing your reasons for seeking to undertake this subject, will be required.

Course content

Neuroscience is transforming our understand of the brain. Taught by specialist academics, this research-led programme will give you foundational knowledge in translational Neuroscience, and allow you to apply this in a research project with one of our varied neuroscience research teams.

Taught through the lens of the contemporary research landscape, you will learn through a combination of online lectures, weekly in-person small group teaching, and workshops focused on applying your knowledge to critical appraisal of research studies. You will also undertake an extended research project to enable you to develop hands-on practical training in research techniques. This programme aims to equip you with the knowledge and transferable skills for employment or further study.

Teaching and research

Learning and teaching

You will learn through a combination of online lectures, weekly in-person small group teaching and workshops focused on applying your knowledge to critical appraisal of research studies. You will also undertake an extended research project to enable you to develop hands-on practical training in research techniques.

Practical laboratory sessions

Depending on your research project topic, you may have the opportunity to develop your laboratory skills in one of our world-leading biomedical research laboratories at the St Luke’s or Streatham campus or Royal Devon University Hospital Trust sites.
