Our postgraduate students sustain and develop the research culture on which we all depend. At Exeter, we encourage the direct involvement of postgraduate students in research seminars. Frequently the academic sessions are led by postgraduates – presenting their work in progress. Many among this community co-author conference papers and articles with their supervisors; all are valued and heard.
In common with other research intensive universities, we have postgraduate students on taught MA programmes (usually for 1 year but can be studied for 2 years part-time) and PhD programmes. All IR PhDs undertake a research training programme that has been approved by the Economic and Social Research Council. The faculty encourage a variety of methodologies – all have to be rigorous and subjected to critical scrutiny.
