European states – policies and politics
Bice Maiguashca’s research has, for the most part, centred on the nature, trajectory and significance of Left politics/movements in the UK and beyond. More concretely, her work with Catherine Eschle explored the rise of feminist anti-capitalist activism in the context of the European and World Social Forums during the 2000’s while her later work with Jonathan Dean shifted the focus to the specificities of left politics in Britain and the ways in which activist struggles around Occupy LSX, the People’s Assembly and the Labour Party under Corbyn have sought to contest forms of neoliberal governance and its attendant austerity agenda. More recently she has directed her efforts at critically interrogating the concept of populism and the American and European theoretical debates which sustain this problematic concept. In all her work she attempts to highlight the importance of feminism (both as a strand of activism and as a powerful analytical framework).
Michail Melidis' research focuses on the implementation of EU environmental policy, the environmental performance of EU Member States, and the ‘leader - laggard’ dynamic. Particular emphasis is given to how environmental policies are implemented in Greece and the United Kingdom in light of the recent economic crisis, Brexit and Covid-19.
Alice Moseley’s research focuses on the application of behavioural perspectives to various aspects of the policy process, including policy design and implementation, drawing on cases from the UK and beyond. Her more recent work focuses on the role of deliberative mini publics and other forms of public deliberation within the policy process, including in the environmental sector. She is a Co-Investigator on the ESRC ACCESS project (2022-2027), ‘Advancing Capacity in Climate & Environmental Social Sciences’
Claudio Radaeilli is a leading figure in the field of Europeanization of public policy. In the Protego project, Claudio and his team created new data to analyze the relationship between administrative procedures (access to regulation, consultation, impact assessment, Ombudsman) and governance outcomes, specifically perception of corruption, environmental performance, and the quality of the business environment. The data and analyses cover both the EU-27 countries and the UK.
