Centre Members and Associates

The Centre for Persian and Iranian Studies (CPIS) was created in 2008 to coordinate and enhance the activities of scholars at the University of Exeter, within history, literature, philosophy, religious studies, politics, classics, and other fields relating to Persian and Iranian academia. The Centre is based in the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies.

It is with great sadness that IAIS wishes to announce that Dr Michael Axworthy, Senior Lecturer in the Modern History of Iran, has passed away after a long illness bravely borne.  Michael will be very sorely missed by all at IAIS.  There is an opportunity for those who knew him to contribute to a condolence board.

Celebrating the Life of Dr Leonard Lewisohn.

On Monday 6 August, our colleague and friend Dr. Leonard Lewisohn passed away suddenly and unexpectedly.

Lenny was loved by students, colleagues and friends worldwide and was a tireless and passionate advocate for his area of study, for Persian culture, and for beauty and art.
