Thursday 12 Jan 2017: Dynamics Seminar: Growing Planar Metapatterns
David Lloyd - University of Surrey
Living Systems Seminar Room A 14:30-16:30
In this talk I will present some recent work on the analysis and formation of planar metapatterns (patterns-of-patterns) that involve changes between two regions of regular (for instance cellular) pattern via moving defects that could be due to inhomogeneities, pattern selecting boundaries or moving domains. These patterns occur in a wide range of applications with either weak, semi-strong or strong morphologies. The talk will focus on two types of metapatterns (involving stripe and hexagon patterns) in the weak morphology setting and present current work looking at strong morphologies.
