Thursday 27 Feb 2020Dynamics Seminar: Inferring the phase response curve from observations

Rok Cestnik - Universität Potsdam

Streatham Court B 13:30-14:30

Phase response curve is a universal property of limit cycle oscillators that quantifies phase susceptibility to external perturbations. As such, it is used for analysis and modeling of oscillatory dynamics in various applications. Standard experimental technique for determining it requires isolation of the system and application of a specifically designed input. However, isolation is not always feasible and one is limited to observing the system in its natural environment under free-running conditions. Hence the need for methods of inferring the phase response curve from observation only. We discuss existing methods and introduce two new ones, demonstrating their strengths and weaknesses on several simulation results and applications to real data.
