Profile
Overview
I am a member of the Centre for Water Systems (CWS) in University of Exeter. I completed my PhD in Civil Engineering – Water Engineering (University of Tehran), in 2017. My research focus is on upgrading the water distribution networks (WDNs) and improving their reliability. Moreover, I have worked in water industry, since 2006, mainly as a consultant, contractor, or client.
Digital Twins for Water Pipe Systems
Currently, I am working as an associate researcher in an InnovateUK-funded knowledge transfer partnership (KTP) between University of Exeter and Datatecnics. The main goal of the project is developing digital twins for water pipe systems. In this project we employ numerical models, machine learning models, and data-driven models to develop a profound understanding of pipes deterioration and their affecting factors. We also utilise in-situ real-time data from pipes to monitor their health condition. This project enables the water utilities to move from reactive to predictive maintenance.
Research interests
My core research in water distribution networks are:
- Failure prediction and asset management
- Pressure management and leakage reduction
- Application of pump-as-turbines in WDNs
- Water quality simulation and analysis
