Kate Marx
Kate was a Postdoctoral Research Associate with EASE,after completing a PhD in Anthrozoology at Exeter. Her doctoral research looked at relationships between long distance hikers and wildlife on the Appalachian Trail, with a particular focus on the phenomenological experience of encountering wild animals in an unmediated environment.
With funding from National Geographic, Kate worked as part of a small team studying attitudes towards rhino poaching among international students from countries which consume rhino horn.
As a researcher she is also very interested in human relationships with canids, and particularly with so-called ‘dangerous’ dog breeds in the UK.
Kate was born in South Africa, lived in Germany for a few years, and finished school in the UK. She has a BA in Theatre Studies from Royal Holloway, University of London (2002) and an MA in Anthrozoology from Exeter (2013).
Kate has several years of experience working at a rescue centre for dogs, and has also worked as a dog walker and photographer.
