Funding opportunities at the University of Exeter
The University offers a wide range of awards to support students in their studies. The Institute of Historical Research (IHR)

The Society for Nautical Research (SNR)
The SNR Tomlin and Anderson Funds provides grants of up to £2,000 to fund research on maritime history and related topics; for more details see their Awards webpage.
The Philip Nicholas Bursary
£3,000 per annum is provided annually by the Philip Nicholas Trust for suitably qualified new applicants under the age of 25 for an MPhil/PhD degree in Maritime History (including naval).
SWMHS bursaries for Centre students
The South West Maritime History Society, in pursuance of its charitable status remit to encourage research into maritime history in the South West, has awarded two annual £250 research travel bursaries to the Centre for Maritime Historical Studies.
Financial Support for Members of the Armed Forces
The MoD's Enhanced Learning Credits Scheme (ELC) is an initiative to promote lifelong learning amongst members of the Armed Forces. The ELC scheme provides financial support in the form of a single up-front payment in each of a maximum of three separate financial years. The University of Exeter is an accredited supplier of courses.
