Overview

I am an educator specialising in Arabic language and literature. My journey in teaching Arabic began in Syria in 2006, where I taught native and non-native speakers. A major turning point in my teaching career was my experience at the Higher Language Institute at the University of Damascus, where I taught non-native speakers for about five years and began shaping my professional profile and teaching approach.

I have been teaching Arabic in the United Kingdom for the past ten years. In both Syria and Britain, I have taught Modern Standard Arabic and colloquial spoken Arabic at all levels. At the same time, I have been developing a teaching approach that aligns with the goal of decolonising the Arabic language curriculum in higher education, which is my main research interest.

Biography

I received my MA in Applied Linguistics from Reading University. Prior to this I graduated from the University of Damascus (Syria) with a BA in Arabic Language and literature. I joined the Institute of Arab and Islamic Studies as an Associate Lecturer in Arabic at 2019.
