MSc Sustainable Finance and Climate Change
MSc Sustainable Finance and Climate Change aims to develop graduates with financial decision-making and commercial awareness in environmental sustainability through practical application to real-world sustainability challenges.
This programme crosses discipline boundaries and is designed so you will develop an understanding and awareness of global climate challenges, tackle shared problems, and propose sustainable and responsible finance solutions that deliver tangible and sustainable social and ecological benefits. You will develop a well-balanced understanding across the principles of finance and investment and the frontiers of climate change science. You will learn to address the challenges of the financial industry’s adaptation to climate change and engage with sustainability debates in real-world contexts. Graduates will be well-positioned to pursue careers in finance, investment management, sustainable development and corporate sustainability.

Sustainable Finance Pathway for MSc programmes

The Sustainable Finance pathway will equip you to embed green and sustainable finance principles and practice into your advice, analysis, actions and decisions. The finance industry is increasingly recognising the importance of integrating sustainability considerations into decision-making processes and companies, investors, and regulators are seeking professionals who possess both financial expertise and knowledge of sustainable practices. This pathway will provide you with specialist skills in this area.
You will learn from research expertise developed within the Exeter Sustainable Finance Centre, which will introduce you to cutting-edge theory and practice in sustainable and responsible finance. Leading academics actively engaged in research on climate finance, environment and sustainability will deliver these modules, which are designed to give insight into theory that has been important in shaping agendas relating to global sustainability.
During the summer, you will conduct a Sustainable Finance Project to solve real-world problems and create positive impact, leading to a sustainable future world through transformative research, education and engagement.

Sustainable Finance (MEAM934)
This module will provide you with an understanding of the strategic implications of sustainability challenges on financial systems, including capital management in private sector businesses and public sector policy formation. It will explore strategies and frameworks for responding to risks and opportunities posed by sustainability issues, like asset valuation, carbon pricing, climate risks and impact investing. Enhanced core competencies for decision making including managing complexity, systems and long-term thinking, and implementing collaborative approaches.
Sustainability Solutions
The University of Exeter collaborated with Capgemini Invent to develop and deliver a Sustainability Solutions Leadership Development Programme. This brought together a large group of Capgemini Invent’s consultants with the University’s top researchers in different fields of sustainability and its implications for business.
The Programme aimed to help Capgemini Invent stay ahead of the game in bringing different aspects of sustainability science ‘into the boardroom’, equipping the consultants with the knowledge and confidence to address this complex but critical topic with their clients.
